Gloucestershire v Avon: 1-5
Our first match was against eventual group winners, Avon. Notable performances from Eva in the number 1 singles, putting Glos on the scoreboard with a 4-1, 4-2 win; and Molly and Lara fought hard in their doubles, but lost out 4-2, 4-3 (9).
Gloucestershire v Devon: 3-4
We played the singles rounds against Devon on Saturday afternoon. Wins from Francesca and Eva left the match poised at 2-2 overnight, with the doubles to follow on Sunday morning. The doubles were split, one each, after Eva and Lucy battled to an 11-9 win in a match tie-break. This took us to a tie-break shoot out. Eva and Lara put in their best efforts but, unfortunately, we lost out 5-10 meaning we came 3rd in the round robin group.
Gloucestershire v Somerset: 6-0
On Sunday afternoon we played Somerset, fighting for 5th place. Singles wins for Molly, Francesca, Lucy and Eva gave us an unassailable lead going into the doubles matches. Francesca & Lara and Lily & Molly put two more wins of the board in the doubles, giving Glos a 6-0 victory and ensuring a 5th place finish.
Overall, the team put in their best efforts and showed fantastic team spirit. The support they showed each other during and after matches was great to see. For the majority of the players, it was their final year of U14s and we hope they have gone away with some really good memories!
